President Buhari reiterates commitment to credible elections in 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari has again reiterated his commitment of a free, fair and credible elections in the country
The president stated this on Friday, November 16, when he met with a delegation of Imams and senior Islamic scholars – President Buhari stressed the need for community and religious leaders to play a part in identifying criminals in their midst As the nation moves into election mode with the commencement of election campaigns next week, President Muhammadu Buhari has again reassured of a free, fair and credible elections in the country. The president stated this when he met with a delegation of Imams and senior Islamic scholars in Abuja on Friday, November 16. He disclosed that a number of measures put in place had seen the gradual improvement of elections, as in Edo, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States. He said these were different from what he described as “dismal and unacceptable levels witnessed in Rivers and Kogi States.
What I want to assure Nigerians is that I will continue to pressure the Police and other agencies to do their best to ensure a conducive atmosphere for free and fair elections,’’ he said. On the issue of security raised by the religious group, Buhari said he would continue to direct security agencies to find lasting solutions to it.
He, however, stressed the need for community and religious leaders to play a part in identifying criminals in their midst. He thanked the religious leaders for recognizing the various achievements of the administration especially in dealing with security, fighting corruption and progress in agriculture. “I am not satisfied with the reporting of agriculture. Millions of our citizens have returned to the farms with many leaving white collar jobs for opportunities in agriculture,’’ he noted. The leader of the delegation, Dr Khalid Aliyu, who is the Secretary General of the Jama’atul Nasril Islam, had praised the President’s achievements. Aliyu said that the president has performed in key areas of his campaign promises in 2015 in the areas of security, corruption and the economy. “So far, so good, government has gone a long way in meeting its promises,’’ he added.
In a previous report by nigerianexplorer.com, President Muhammadu Buhari says his vision and objectives for Nigeria are very clear and he is on course to achieving them. The president stated this when he received members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its President, Reverend (Dr,) Samson Ayokunle in State House, Abuja, on Friday.
President Buhari stated that he had been doing his best to fulfil his electoral promises of securing the country, fighting corruption and resuscitating the economy.
